Akula Sri Harshitha met us for her academic credit as a part of her PGDM from Vignana Jyothi Institute of Management in July 2021. Her specialization was finance, as her interest lies in the lines of financial analyst. 

Fast forward here to January 2023, and we found her placed in DELOITTE! 🤯👏  

With 7 months of work experience, she talked a lot about MentorMind's impact on her career journey!

The MM interviewer: MM’s principle is based on ‘learning by doing.’ right? So, you were assigned tasks like creating financial statements, reports, and stuff? Did this “learn by doing” method helps you in your work? 

Harshitha: During the Menternship, I was a fresher. And MM is the first place where I learnt practicality, (i,e) applying theories to real work!

See, the tasks were exciting. Theoretical knowledge is understanding the concept and applying it in exams, but when it comes to the actual practical knowledge and applying it to the real industry, it was challenging and we got really excited! I used to be overjoyed when my tasks came out accurately! 

And this learning experience of doing financial analysis, finance strategies, and reports made me confident of ‘learning by doing’!

The MM interviewer: How were the mentor sessions and feedback? 

Harshitha: We used to have a 30-minute one-on-one call with mentors for doubts as well as for feedback. The thing I liked the most about the feedback was the ‘clarity.’ The mentors used to be apt on what where I went wrong and how I should have done better. 

Finance is all about numbers. The mentors used to come up with exact calculations of where I missed. Straightforward, yet polite enough so that I learn and clear my doubts.

The mentorship experience immensely helped me get over my mistakes.

The MM interviewer: We offer chat support as well. Did you use and how was it? 

The MM interviewer: Have you used the menternship certificate in your career?

Harshitha: Yes, in my Resume! I had a gap of 1 year between my undergraduate and postgraduate studies. And I was not so sure about it. Showing a gap in your resume and talking about it didn't seem easy! 

And, Menternships sounded just the right thing to add to my resume. Interestingly, wherever I applied my resume and sat for interviews, they used to ask questions related to Menternships only. Hadn’t I done these live projects, I wouldn’t have been selected for MNCs.   

The MM interviewer: How did you feel speaking about Menternships during the interview? 

Harshitha: For whatever question the interviewer asked me about menternships, I felt so confident to answer it because I’ve done it and I know it. 

I gave a brief of my learnings from these Menternships. My interview lasted for 20 minutes, and the questions were mainly about these only. 

The MM interviewer: MM has a team dedicated to the placement of students for paid internships. How was that experience? 

Harshitha: See, It was the pandemic time and the college placements were running slow. Most of the companies had signed up to come, but they didn’t show up. There were fewer internship opportunities as well. Internships had become harder to get. But with the MM team guiding us, I got into Northstar. And, thanks to them as well, I learnt a lot of stuff there, and Thanks to MM, it was my first internship experience and this internship's impact on my career is tremendous as well!  

The MM interviewer: If I ask you to name three skills you learnt from MentorMind, a skill that you use in your work, what would your answer be?  

Harshitha: 

• Practicability skills: 👩‍🔧Application of theories into practice is a must-mention.

• Analytical skills: 📚The Menternship I took was in financial analytics, and I learnt how to analyze from the reports how the industries are performing. 

• Time management skills:⏰ To be precise, deadlines. We had deadlines attached to every Menternship, which helped me manage time and hit the deadlines.

The MM interviewer: Lastly, what’s your overall view on the Menternships impact on your career? 

Harshitha: Sure, I would say MM is a blessing for me! 🥰 It taught me a lot about the real industry.  I had a year's gap, plus the peak COVID time. So, it was the Menternships that helped me bag this job.

And for career growth as well, I believe, whenever I want to shift my role, these Menternships would play a great role in my new job!
